Instructions
- Click on the "connect to live audio" button at the top of the inset frame above. Your media player should start playing the live stream. If it doesn't, check your browser settings and/or install iTunes (or audacious on Linux)
- Keep the volume down, particularly if you hear unpleasant sounds (this is inevitable early on in the evolutionary process). We are not responsible for your hearing, you are.
- Make sure that your media player is showing track names correctly. It should say something like "loop 22", and the loop number should change every 15 seconds or so. If it doesn't, try iTunes or another media player.
- If possible, make your media player window as small as possible and move it to a corner of the screen. You need to be able to see the loop numbers at the same time as this web page. Some players in Windows and Linux will tell you the track name in the task bar while minimized - this is ideal.
- Now listen to the music. You are hearing computer-generated four bar loops, each played twice in a row (occasionally four times). Most media players change the track name/loop number slightly in advance of the track/loop change (you can often minimize this by reducing the audio buffer size), so please be aware of this.
- Tell us what you think about the individual loops by pressing one of the five ratings buttons below, followed by the appropriate loop number button. The loop number buttons appear after you press the rating button (the last four loops streamed from the server are shown).
- When the system receives your rating, it is used to determine whether or not the loop will reproduce and have baby loops, which will eventually be streamed to you for rating.
- Keep providing ratings for as long as you like. Registered participants are asked to provide around 50 ratings per day.
- If you make a mistake and rate the wrong loop, or if you change your mind you can click the "back" or "undo" buttons and then make a new rating if required.
- If, for some reason, you lose the audio stream and need to reconnect, just reload this page and you'll get the connection button again.
- You are welcome to download the evolving loops and use them non-commercially, in accordance with the Creative Commons attribution licence.
- If your browser lets you, you might prefer to open the ratings frame in a new window (e.g. in FireFox, see the right click menu→This Frame).
